First Day

The morning went well- between the two teams we had about 140 children and we anticipate a great many more tomorrow.  The children seemed to really enjoy the activities; I was impressed with the work of the team- everything was well done!  The team from the church in San Francisco was very helpful and their participation is so importatn to reaching our goal of adding at least 10 new families to the family of God and to the church.

As you may have noticed from the comments, the team has a few hours free and found the internet cafe a block from their hotel.  At 6:30 they will head to The Hole to lead the youth meeting there and afterwards will enjoy a cookout at Pastor Ramon’s house.  I will add some pictures of the day soon!

Continue praying for the bible schools, for the children and for their families, that God would touch their hearts and bring them to Himself.  Pray for traveling safety and good health. We appreciate your following along in prayer- it makes a huge difference!

A Day of Worship

We got off to a great start this morning as we worshiped together with the church at San Francisco.  Keith preached while Pastor Gabriel translated- he had a great message. Will and Andrew shared testimonies and Pastor Gabriel gave Anne a chance to share about her experiences as a journeyman here in ‘79-81.  The music was great- we sang in English and Spanish and it felt good just to be in God’s presence.

We ate lunch (provided to us by the church) at a church member’s home and then spent the afternoon getting to know the two communities where we will work, passing out invitations to the children.  The Memorial team was paired up in twos with Dominican partners so it was a great chance to get to know one another.

Anne went with me to Bonao to pick up one of our translators and was able to spend about an hour and a half with some dear friends she made while here and see a child that was named after her! It was quite a thrill for all of us to see them reunited after almost 24 years! God is so good!

One specific prayer concern I have is that as we begin the VBS tomorrow, that God would bring 5 families in each locale to know Him, and bring them into the fellowship of the church. We have set a goal that at least 10 families come to know the Lord and join the church as a result of this week. That would nearly double the church!  Pray with us that through the contact in these neighborhoods, people would come and join the family of faith.
