Military ParadeMilitary ParadeMilitary Parade

Today marks the anniversary of the decisive battle for freedom over Haiti in the mid 1850s.  Around 11:30am, we were buzzed by military planes and helicopters, an annual part of the commemoration of this battle.  I happened to bump into the military parade and enjoyed seeing all the different units pass by.

When the planes were flying low overhead, and the helicopters buzzing us, smiles came to the faces in the crowd, including my own. It was a special moment, which led me to think about those countries who are at war, where planes fly low, not in proud ceremony, but for real.  I thought about all the machine guns I had just seen and thought of them in action.

I am grateful for the freedom we enjoy, both in the USA and in the DR, to share our faith openly. Let us remember those who are protecting our freedom and those who are suffering the many terrible consequences of war. May God bring peace on earth soon!

Something to think about

Trials, temptations, disappointments — all these are helps instead of hindrances, if one uses them rightly. They not only test the fibre of a character, but strengthen it. Every conquered temptation represents a new fund of moral energy. Every trial endured and weathered in the right spirit makes a soul nobler and stronger than it was before.
